Show Notes:

In this recap of Season Two, Carla talks about the role our feelings should have, and how to keep our actions tied to a life lived in faith versus being feelings led.

Key Takeaways:

  • Carla opens with sharing how she often shares that “Feelings aren’t fact” but is careful to clarify that it doesn’t mean we need to ignore feelings altogether!
  • Carla talks about how God created us with emotion, and how even Jesus experienced emotion. The solution to not being feelings-led is NOT to avoid feelings, but to put your feelings in the right perspective.
  • Our emotions are tools, like a barometer. They are data for us to use to explore! Ask yourself why you are feeling the way you are, and where your focus is, and how you can realign it.
  • Emotions are important to recognize, especially if you are in the process of healing trauma. Stifling emotions doesn't allow healing to happen - instead, they grow bigger and stronger and hold power over our life when they are kept in the dark. Bringing them to the light helps you learn how to sit with them and deal with them - not act on them!
  • Carla talks about the difference between being feelings-led and feelings-aware - how our actions should be based on the Word of God and our faith. When our emotions do not align with the Word of God, we must address them by taking them captive and replacing them with the Word of God to renew our minds.
  • Remember, our feelings are a product of our thinking and belief system! This is why it’s important to recognize when our feelings are not leading us in faith, we have to take it captive and renew it.
  • Our feelings are like the weather - important to understand for the moment, but we don’t make life-long decisions based on the weather we’re experiencing right now because it will change!
  • Carla talks about the importance to Know God as you work through healing - trusting His Word over your feelings is the most empowering way to move forward!

Affirming Truth:

I will not be led by my feelings, but I will be led by the Spirit of God.
