Fall Fashion Staples in my Closet

My last few blog posts have been, well, on the heavier side.

Mental Health.  Parenting. Marriage Troubles.

I mean, I love diving into the big, deep stuff. Talking about things that matter.  Talking about things others shy away from. I think it’s important to normalize, in a healthy way, the things we ALL struggle with.  Even if we don’t want to talk about them.

But guess what?  I also like to have FUN!  True story!

And one of the ways I have fun is through fashion.

I love walking the levels of the mall. I love putting an outfit together.  And since I was young, I have loved expressing myself through fashion.

So I thought I’d take a break from the heavy and share some of what I love you - fall fashion!

More specifically, I want to inspire your wardrobe with 5 must have items to have in your closet this fall/winter.  Real, wearable items that are versatile, chic and - fun!

But the key here for me really - is that they have to be wearable.  Am I right momma’s?

From carpooling to the office to cleaning and more, I need that fashion that works and takes me beyond yoga pants and a messy bun (although I have worn those multiple times with pride LOL).

Clothing should work for your lifestyle, be accessible, functional, showcase your personality and accentuate your God given features. And I think my must have pieces for fall hit all the right notes.

5 Fall Must Have Pieces

Some of my favourite booties

1. Fall Booties

It’s October and there’s no denying that crispness in the air.  As we are changing over our manicure colours from summer brights to fall’s rich hues, it’s time to put the sandles away too. And booties are where it’s at!  Basic black, classic animal print or this season’s must have snake skin - booties can take any outfit and up the chicfactor.

I just bought this beauty in grey from Aritzia

2. Midi Dress

From meetings at work to brunch with the girls, a great fall midi dress can take you to many social occasions.  Look for a lightweight fabric that can make layering fun without adding too much bulk. Play with cuts that make you feel most confident - from form fitting to flowing.

3. Comfy Cardigan

Give me all the coziness of a comfy cardigan!  Belted, lose, duster - the options are endless.  Paired with leggings, jeans or thrown over a cute maxi this staple piece makes my must have list every year. And went it comes to cardigans don’t be afraid to go BOLD with colour and pattern!

4. Leather Leggings

What I love about leather leggings is they automatically up the “oomph” factor of your

outfit.  Dress it down with wedge sneakers and a graphic tee or spice it up with a killer pair of heels and a little lace.   The styling options are endless and are my go to piece for a girls night out.

Rocking our plaids out to dinner

5. Plaid Blazer

A fashionable alternative to a denim jacket, a plaid blazer is everything to me right now.  Go for structured or this season’s oversized trend, either way you’ll make any outfit feel more pulled together.

Honourable Mentions: Wide brim hat, Sweater dress, Over the knee boots

So, do you have any of these items in your wardrobe already?  Or have a favourite from my list? Have a must have that didn’t make my list?
